Order of the Blood Rose: Rauva

Today is Jon's Birthday. Jon has a 20+ Level albino drow elf with wings. Jon has been playing this character in my Forgotten Realms campaign off and on for over 20 IRL years!

This project took more time, techniques, and TLC to get her just right than I initially expected.

Jon is worth it though. Happy 40th!

Clan Wars: Photoshoot

Tools: Photoshoot Nook

Last night Matt Schmidt stopped by and did a photoshoot for about 200 Clan Wars minis. This is was the project looked like:

We got to hang out while he took pics of Clan Wars Personalities, Lions, Dragons, and Crane Units. I picked the minis and placed them in the staging area. Once he finished taking pics of any group, he and I placed them on a dvd case or book, so that they could be removed quickly and placed back in the correct cases retrieved them from. We discovered what I paint in 1 month (60 minis), Matt can take pics of in 1 hour!

Crane- 2nd Elite Unit- Crane Elite Archers- PART 2

I was able to add the flesh in one hour to 24 minis:

Then in 1 hour and 45 minutes I colored their (24 minis) clothes a light yellow:

Here is a closeup. Notice at this stage its a bit sloppy:

I painted the armor on one Crane Elite Archer. That took 20 minutes as I was trying to prevent coloring on the yellow clothing as much as possible. I then decided to base the rest of the color schema on the Doji House Guard. Eventually, this will give the army a more coherent feel :

So...about 3 hours later, I have 2 colors on 24 minis (and 1 has 3 colors) and I have chosen my paint schema.

Crane- 2nd Elite Unit- Crane Elite Archers-PART 1

So I have finished the Doji House Guard. On to the next Crane Unit.... The Crane Elite Archers!

According to Valiant as of (8/15/2013) You can get the minis at this site:
Valiant Miniatureshttp://www.veltd.net/zencart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=36_38&zenid=63e38f2b12e9481bdc203f1fce42f5ee
In the picture below, the stock numbers are listed in order from Left to Right:

The Next thing to look at is:
Number to paint? Crane Book says: "20 models total". I have 24. I plan on painting all 24. I don't know what I am going to do with the extra 4, but I am sure I will figure that out over the course of this project.

Do I have the right Colors?
Well, for my Crane Army I am attempting to paint the entire army with baby blue (Light Blue/Reaper Paints) Samurai armor.I want each unit's clothing to be a pastel color, so that eventually it will look like an army of pastel Easter eggs deployed on the field of battle.
The higher rank of the model in the army, the more Metallic Blue and White the unit will have.
Thus far I have chosen the following colors for clothing:

  • Doji House Guard: Pink (Valentine Pink/Apple Barrel) (7/1/2013)
  • Elite Crane Archers: pastel yellow (Lemon Chiffon/Apple Barrel) (8/15/2013)

Initially I know I will need the following colors for the Elite Crane Archers....
  • Skin- Tanned Skin/Reaper Paints
  • Clothing- Lemon Chiffon/Apple Barrel
  • Armor-Light Blue/Reaper Paints
With painting 3 colors for 24 models, I am going to have plenty of time to figure the rest of the paint scheme out.

Time to dive in!

Project Overview- Doji House Guard (CN6)

This is a project that I have been working diligently on. I have several miniatures painted up at different stages to illustrate to you the process that I use to speed paint. I will be posting both front and back pics of most of these miniatures. Each Phase will consist of 1-3 additional colors and/or a Drybrushing Phase.

You can order the mini from the link below:
Doji House Guard (CN6)
Cost: $6.00 each ( as of: 8/11/2013)

Project Goal(s):

  • Only spend about an hour per mini
  • Make a unit that is "Table Ready" so that you can start to play the game rather than thinking... "Gee, someday it would be nice to play Clan Wars". Remember a nice sized Clan War army consists of about 100 models... so even an hour per model is quite the project.
  • Do NOT use a lot of advanced techniques that will slow down the process
  • Make a unit that will be easily repairable in the future by taking a pic so you can remember which colors were used (See Below).
